The Careplus Pharmacy Group was set up over 15 years ago by Alan Porter.

Alan lives in Melbourne with his wife Kathy.

They have 4 children and 11 grand children

The group operates four pharmacies in the Suburbs of Melbourne and the South West

Of Victoria.

Careplus Pharmacy Group is a small and independent group of

pharmacies offering personal care and service to the surrounding community

The group employs over 35 people including up to 10 pharmacists.

So as to encourage the availability of Pharmacists to interact directly with our clients.

Alan Has developed a professional team of retail managers and dispensary technicians to work in each store allowing the pharmacist the time to counsel and advise customers on the correct use of medicines as well as the treatment of minor ailments. Alan encourages the pharmacists and staff to have a close relationship with the local doctors ensuring the best of care and attention for the pharmacies clients.

The pharmacies also work closely with other professionals in the health field such as dieticians, physiotherapists, community nurses, mental health, nursing homes and infant welfare centres.

Until 1981 there was always 2 Pharmacies in Casterton. One of the Pharmacies was owned by Mr Walter Bickers which is where the pharmacy is currently located. The other was owned by Mr John Hughes, who came to the area as a relief pharmacist during WWII and ended up staying for the next 70+ years. The working relationship between the two pharmacies was always a positive one. This was evident when Mr Hughes pharmacy was burnt down in the 1970s and was forced to relocate.

Mr Hughes was heavily involved within the community; he was an esteemed member of the Rotary club for many years. In retirement he delivered meals on wheels into his early 90s until the next week they were being delivered to him. Mr Hughes never left his pharmacy life behind even beyond retirement, he was a frequent visitor to the pharmacy until his death in 2012 when the pharmacy closed its doors for his funeral.

The two pharmacies were bought out by Mr Ian Lewellin in 1981. Mr Lewellin followed in Mr Hughes footsteps, involving himself in many community organisations. Alan purchased the pharmacy from Mr Lewellin in 2000 and although he lives in Sunbury his sponsorship and support towards many local clubs and functions is appreciated by the community.

 Alan purchased the pharmacy from Neville Preston in March 1999. The pharmacy has been renovated and he has seen the pharmacy grow over the years. The Pharmacy is managed by Peter Unger with the help of Jenny Inglis (retail manager).

Alan opened the pharmacy in the Medical One centre over 15 years ago. It is managed by Paul Watson with the help of Donna Payne (retail manager).
